The purpose of a portfolio is threefold:

  • To illustrate your strengths and qualifications in order to gain the recruiter’s attention
  • To reinforce what you talk about in the interview and distinguish yourself from other candidates
  • To secure internship and employment opportunities in your area of interest and preparation

A well-developed portfolio can support and expand upon your resume and increase your interview opportunities. By sharing examples in your portfolio and being proactive rather than reactive, you can use it to turn the interview into a presentation rather than an interrogation. Keep in mind that the resume helps to secure an interview, and the interview secures the job.  Your portfolio can support both sides of the job-winning process.
